1. General Introduction
16Mo3 (1.5415) is a fully killed alloy steel for pipe fittings specified by EN 10253-2. Butt welding pipe fittings(elbow, tee, reducer and cap) made from 16Mo3 steel are often used for pressure purposes at elevated temperature. The chemical composition, mechanical properties(yield /proof strength, tensile strength, elongation, impact properties, hot yield strengths at different temperatures), and heat treatment conditions of EN 10253-2 16Mo3 are the same as that of EN 10216-2 16Mo3. The starting material for EN 10253-2 16Mo3 pipe fittings can be seamless pipe, welded pipe or steel plate. The closest ASTM equivalent is A234 WP1 which is also a chromium-molybdenum(Cr-Mo) alloy steel for butt-weld pipe fittings.
